For over a decade, Butterfly: Asian and Migrant Sex Worker Support Network has grown from grassroots organizing in Toronto into a collective movement for rights, dignity, justice, and liberation.
Through art, storytelling, and collective memories, this exhibition celebrates an important chapter of Toronto’s migrant history, highlighting how Asian and migrant massage workers and sex workers have built solidarity, strengthened community leadership, and resisted systemic discrimination and injustice.
The exhibition revisits the 2018 resistance against massage parlour closures, the growth of grassroots organizing and collective mobilization, and the lasting impact of these struggles on movements for migrant justice, sex workers’ rights, racial justice, gender justice, and collective liberation.
This exhibition is an interactive and evolving collective creation that continues to grow through the contributions of workers, friends, and allies. We warmly invite everyone to be part of this ongoing journey by sharing their stories, memories, artwork, reflections, and messages of solidarity. Together, we can continue to shape this living exhibition, honour our collective history, celebrate our resistance, and build toward collective liberation.
Submit your own memory, solidarity message, or photographs here.
This is more than an art exhibition. It is a celebration of community, solidarity, resistance, and collective liberation.
We warmly invite you to join us for the opening reception on November 6, and an informal artist engagement on November 15, where we will come together to share stories, reflect on our collective journeys, and celebrate the power of art in advancing social change.
We look forward to celebrating with you!
