OFFERING:
Work with us
Are you an emerging artist or collective? Are you looking to collaborate on presentation and programming?
Due to gentrification, many community spaces in Kensington, Chinatown and Alexandra Park have been pushed out of the area. We're aiming to fill that gap as a space for our local communities to gather, and we're interested in projects that actively connect the neighbourhood with critical and responsive arts programming.
As a response to the unpredictable realities of gallery funding, we want to offer alternative and more flexible ways to collaborate that are not tied to a specific deadline, in addition to our regular calls for submissions.
Our priorities:
Community-led and responsive programming
Socially engaged practices, collaborations and projects by collectives
Offsite, digital or onsite projects that amplify perspectives outside of the mainstream
Projects that are playful, experimental, challenging and critical
What's helpful to include in your email:
A little bit about you / your collective
Your project idea
Why would you like to collaborate with Whippersnapper?
How does your proposal consider Whippersnapper’s unique storefront window and connection to the street?
Additional resources you may need for your project (for example, do you already have approved funding for a project but no exhibition space? Would we need to apply for supplemental funding together?)
Send your daydreams and ideas to Jody at programming@whippersnapper.ca.
The board meets monthly and your submission will undergo an internal review process.
Note: we tend not to prioritize proposals for solo exhibitions. We post regular opportunities for individual artists, including workshops, mentorships, and group exhibitions. We encourage you to take a look at those first!
2. Studio visits
We'd love to see what you're working on, and we’re always open to in-person or virtual studio visits to learn more about your practice!
Email Jody at programming@whippersnapper.ca to introduce yourself and schedule a studio visit.
