LaPierre’s performance is the first in a chain of experiments. Look out for future experiments by Jazmine Carr, Petra Glynt, and Farah Yusuf.

Whippersnapper is proud to present a solo exhibition by Calgary-based artist, Hannah Doerksen. In Worn out… hand-made and manufactured objects serve to represent a “nature” setting: A prairie sun sets behind a tumbleweed feebly swaying between a pair of fans. There is an off-putting tranquility that is interrupted by flashing messages: snippets of text which hint at a narrative, generic words of rootlessness and restlessness, lifted from movie dialogues, song lyrics, literature and conversation. Though the context for the messages is not clear, they function as a disjointed film script for the bleak scene. The desolate landscape speaks of isolation in conversation with a busy city street.

Hannah Doerksen is a Calgary based visual artist who received a BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2012. Doerksen has exhibited in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Glasgow, the UK, the US and through-out Canada. Recently Doerksen has developed installations for The Esker Foundation’s Project Space, the 2015 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of Alberta and the Walter Phillips Gallery. Doerksen combines collage, sound, light, kinetic devices and re-appropriated objects in installations that aim to create a framework for an emotional experience. Taking as an assumption that wanting provides a richer emotion than having, her work is an investigation of longing, contradiction and a cultural condition of loneliness.
