Artists Storefronts: Call for Proposals

Dates: Weekends September 4 - 24, 2023
Artist Fee: Artists will be paid $580 tabling fee for 4 half-days + 85% revenue from sales.
A window, a storefront, an ad, a billboard, an intervention, a fundraiser, a pocket, a community favorite, a teeny-tiny hidden gem!
With Artists Storefronts we are exploring the storefront as a space that can delineate certain codes: as an advertisement, an intervention, a billboard. We are looking to artists and collectives whose work intersects with commerce in playful, engaging, and subversive ways. We’re interested in centering craft and design and thinking about its value in contemporary art and commerce spaces. If you feel like your work moves between or defies those categories, this project is for you! We are also excited to program conversations/workshops that delve deeper into all things that intersect with craft.
Details:
Whippersnapper is seeking applications from artists/collectives/makers for Artists Storefronts, a craft-based series of week-long pop ups. We will be providing six BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, racialized) artists/collectives the opportunity to sell their work at our storefront gallery and come together for a two day artist fair, September 23-24, 2023. This two-day event brings together all artists tabling, craft exploration workshops, and storytelling opportunities.
This opportunity includes:
Your work will be displayed for 1 week in September 2023 (exact dates TBA) at our storefront gallery: 594 Dundas Street West.
Displaying your work at our storefront gallery for one weekend festival September 23-24, alongside 5 other artists.
Professional development opportunities for participating artists to be equipped to sell work
Learning to navigate making sales and setting up systems for sales
Skill sharing opportunities through pre-event professional development session
Artist Fee:
Whippersnapper will be paying artists $580 for 4 half-days of tabling/selling their work at the gallery.
Artists keep 85% of revenue from sales, with 15% contribution supporting the PEERS program, Whippersnapper's peer-to-peer mentorship program for emerging artists.
