Signs for Palestine: A Banner Making Workshop with Aram Sifuentes
Drawing on revolutionary signage, symbols, and slogans shaped by Palestinian resistance to Israeli apartheid, the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre (CFMDC) and Whippersnapper Gallery host a protest banner-making workshop led by multimedia artist Aram Sifuentes. This gathering took place in conjunction with the Israeli Apartheid Month.
Founded by artist Aram Han Sifuentes in 2016, the Protest Banner Lending Library is housed in different locations across Turtle Island, one of them being the CFMDC.
Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) is an international and grassroots political education campaign in solidarity with the unstoppable struggle for Palestinian liberation.
Since its beginnings in 2005, IAW has organized thousands of events in hundreds of cities worldwide, mobilizing institutions to heed the call from Palestinian civil society to Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS) israel. While IAW most commonly takes place on university campuses, this year, the Toronto Artists Coalition for Palestine and community partners have come together to present a series of programs committed to confronting Zionism in the arts. Through film, panel discussions, and collaborative art-making, we will gather in-person and online to build people power towards dismantling Israel’s regime of apartheid and settler colonialism. The ongoing and heightened genocide in Gaza, in the West Bank, and across Palestine is a stark reminder of the urgency of this work. Join us in collectively organizing the arts to end international complicity in genocide.
